A new index to assess meteorological drought: the Drought Exceedance Probability Index (DEPI)

چکیده

This paper presents a new index to determine meteorological drought conditions, the Drought Exceedance Probability Index (DEPI), derived from monthly precipitation time series. Its formulation is simple and undemanding in terms of baseline information requirements. makes DEPI suitable for routine application any climate, similar well-known Standardized Precipitation (SPI). The based on calculation cumulative rainfall anomalies their subsequent standardization, similarly other indices. hallmarks DEPI, its main comparative advantages, are process accumulating standardization process. compares with SPI several different climates across world all cases results show complementarity both shows an excellent ability reflect actual severity duration droughts, without requiring scales, unlike SPI.
